Create the Remaining Treatment Groups

The same procedures used to create Treatment Group 1 can be used to created Treatment Groups 2, 3, and 4. That is, under the Make & Edit Groups tab of the Edit Protocol Page. click on Create and proceed as in building of Treatment Group 1.

However, ProtoGenie is designed to make protocol construction easier by providing the capabilities to duplicate groups and events. In this case, the four treatment groups are similar enough to benefit from these labor-saving features.

Keep in mind that the measurements are the same in all four groups, so only the one you created is necessary.

By way of review, the design calls for the presentation of two different pictures (attractive and unattractive). The first (attractive) is presented in the 1st and 3rd groups. See below in green) and the second (unattractive) is presented in the 2nd and 4th groups (See below in Blue).

Two different descriptions are presented (average intelligence and high intelligence). The first description (Average Intelligence) is presented in the 1st and 4th group (See below in purple). The second description (High Intelligence) is presented in the 2nd and 3rd group (See below in red).

You have already created Treatment Group 1, so you can use that to create Treatment Group 3, which also presents the Attractive Picture. This means that you only have to change the description the goes with "Average Intelligence" to the description that goes with "High Intelligence." To do this, select Treatment Group Group 1). Click on CREATE, select EDIT, and then DUPLICATE. A new group called "Copy of Treatment Group 1" will appear in the Group Specification Table.

Change "Copy of Treatment Group 1" to "Treatment Group 3." Scroll down to the Instrument Construction Area and change the description to

Intelligence test, SAT and other standardized tests, and grade point averages indicate that this person is very intelligent.

You can now duplicate Treatment Group 3 to make Treatment Group 2, which both have the High Intelligence description, but different pictures. Change the name to Treatment Group 2 and change the URL in the new Treatment Group 2

Now, you can duplicate Treatment Group 2 to make Treatment Group 4, which has the same picture (Unattractive), but different descriptions. Relabel this and change the description to

Intelligence test, SAT and other standardized tests, and grade point averages indicate that this person is of average intelligence.

It is important that you look under the Sequencing tab and check under each group in the Action List that the proper events are listed and that they are in the right order.
