Free Image Hosting Services
Presenting an image as a stimulus in Protogenie requires a standard URL address. This means that the image must be posted on a Web server. If you do not have access to a campus or institutional server, you can use one of the many free image hosting services.
To choose an image hosting service, use Google or other search engine. A useful directory of image hosting services with customer ratings is located at
Directory These services vary on image size limitations (e.g. 1mg), removal policies (e.g., images not used in 6 months will be removed), and whether registration is required.
An example of a free image hosting service is called Suprfile. This hosting service does not require registration. It has a 1mg image size limitation and a 6 month (unused) removal policy.
To get a URL for use in ProtoGenie, simply open the image hosting service and type or paste the file name of your JPEG (or other standard) image file into the designated field and click OK.
Remember that if your pictures require top levels of security or if it is critical that your free server not be down when your experiments are scheduled, then you may want to take the steps necessary for customized levels of server security.
